Incorporating the Mens & Womens Bowling Associations of the County of Northumberland

Alsop Cup Winners

The game was tight throughout, Northumberland only holding a 1 shot lead at 5 ends, then were 2 behind at 10, and only 1 behind at 15 ends. At this point Northumberland overturned this deficit and took a slender lead of 10 shots at 18 ends. However, Yorkshire fought back over the last few ends but our lads held their own and won by 3 shots (110 to 107) - and importantly won on 4 rinks - which meant we collected 8 points + 10 for the win. We finished top of the table with 55 points, with last years' champions Durham on 52 points. If Northumberland had won 15 - 7 - it actually would have meant a 3 way tie at the top of the table - with ourselves, Durham and Yorkshire all on 52 points - with Yorkshire taking the title on shots difference (fortunately that didn't happen).

This is our first success of the Alsop Cup since 2009 - and a huge well done to all concerned, players, officials, and supporters - Team Manager Michael Wilson, Team Administrator Keith Rowe, and fellow official Darryl Illingworth.

Team Manager Michael Wilson added "Well done to everyone today you did exactly what I asked and as Team Manager I cannot ask for more, it was great today and think over the games we deserved it".
