Alsop Cup Victory

The final advantage was only 6 shots - with the score being 114 to 108 in our favour (and we collected 14 points). At one point it looked like we would take 18 or 20 points from the game, as we led on 4 and 5 rinks - and had a 28 shot lead at 15 ends, but from this point the lead reduced and at 18 ends it was 17 shots and the finish was only 6 shots. With only winning on 2 of the rinks and 4 points that it brings may prove decisive in our chase to overturn leaders Durham.

There was also another game yesterday at Southport, where Lancashire hosted defending champions and current leaders Durham. Durham took another crucial win by 122 to 115 and collected 16 points (Lancashire 6 points). This result means Durham still boast a 100% win record, and extends their lead and they sit at the top of the table on 48 points, with Northumberland in second on 37 points. There is one game left for ourselves on 7th July against Yorkshire at Ponteland BC.

The team and final rink scores are as follows: -

M Hayden, A Johnson Jnr, J Sutherland, M Raftree v J Walker 31 - 8

W Ray, D Mitchell, P Mason, R Donkin v J Barber 13 - 24
