Backworth Welfare retained their title with a 13 shot win over Fossway this afternoon (Sun 9th July) at Ponteland B.C. In their quest to lift the title for the first time Fossway could not have made a worse start, trailing by 21 shots to 4 after only 4-ends. Not down hearted though, they fought their way back into the game and with only 4-ends remaining they had cut the deficit to 5 shots. Backworth then rallied and scored 7 shots across the board to secure the title for a seventh time.

Middleton Cup 2016

Northumberland suffered a disappointing 30 shot defeat to Lincolnshire in the opening Middleton Cup fixture of the season this afternoon (4th June).

In the opening exchanges Northumberland took a 5 shot lead, however this was short lived as they struggled to come to terms with the conditions and at 10 ends fell behind by 10 shots, which increased to 16 at 15 ends. There was a sudden change in fortune at that point and Northumberland rallied and got within 4 shots of their opponents. Unfortunately that was as close as it got and after a couple of dropped scores across the rinks heads dropped and the game was lost.

Lincolnshire 130 (18pts) v 100 (4pts) Northumberland
