2019 Returns & County Dinner

2019 Returns / Submissions

To be returned to George Batey by 31st October; early returns are very much appreciated. The returns include league and cup entrees, as well as competition entrees, and membership list(s).

 

 

County Dinner 

The BNMS will take place on Saturday 3rd November. All championship, cup and league winners are expected to attend this great evening. All enquiries to George Batey.

Jubilee Cup Final

In the opening matches Benfiled made a great start over Rothbury by scoring counts of 3 on the opening two ends, which ultimately give them victory as they only conceded 5 shots overall on their way to a 12-5 victory. In the other game holders North Shields West End lost by 3 shots (8-5) to Newbiggin. In the second session NSWE give themselves hope of retaining their crown when they defeated Benfield by a single shot (10-9), this despite dropping a count of 5 on the penultimate end.

 

Edwardson Cup Final

Backworth Welfare came from behind to record their sixth success in this competition with a 13 shot victory over the Fossway. At the 5-end stage Fossway held a slender 2 shot lead which became 4 at 10-ends. Over the next 5-ends though Backworth collected 26 shots whilst dropping only 14 to lead by 8 going into the final few ends. A lead which they maintained to run out winners by 59 shots to 46.

 

Balcomb Trophy

Northumberland came through two very tense games in the regional finals to reach the last four of the competition. In the semi-final a fantastic start was made with Chris Yeomans storming to a 9-1 lead and Chris Palmer 6-0 at 5 ends, by the 10th end Yeomans led by 7 and Palmer by 6. Over the next 5 ends Yeomans retained the same margin, however Palmer lost 5 consecutive ends to slip 5 behind. At the 18th end Northumberland held a slender 1 shot lead, but by winning 5 of the six remaining ends the overall score was 44-35 in Northumberland's favour.

 

Alsop Cup

Northumberland lost to Cumbria by 133 (20pts) shots to 99 (2pts)

Rink Scores: R Goldsmith, F Short, Jim Taylor & P Dawson lost to P Bannister 15-23; A Stewart, A Hall, Jack Taylor & L Birch lost to P Metcalfe 17-18; M Hayden, R Harrison, B Rootham & I Dickinson bt A Little 26-13; L Jones, M White, M Raftree & M Simmonette lost to J Barber 12-28; C Armstrong, S Miller, D Bolton & G Donkin lost to S Watson 15-17; B Callum, P Brookwell, A Fantozzi & R Donkin lost to I Williams 14-34.

 

Middleton Cup

Northumberland's hopes of progressing in he Middleton Cup this term came to a shuddering end as they suffered a loss to Nottinghamshire by 131(16pts) to 106 (6pts) Rink scores Jack Miller, Clive Knott, Ian Brown & Paul Ging lost to S Bailey 8-30; Michael London, Shaun Blaylock, Chris Lewars & Craig Cooper bt S Overton 18-17; Steve Pallas, Jonathan King, Gary Myerscough & Richard Train bt M Owen 27-19; Brian Davidson, Brian Rootham, Mick McGreevy & Chris Yeomans bt D Robinson 20-15; Michael Cymber, Jim Taylor, Steve Harvey & Simon Richardson lost to A Lockhart 16-30; Josh Minto, Brian Houghton, Phil Paxton & Philip Harvey lost to D Scott 17-20
